This past year I read Seth Godin’s new book ‘Tribes‘ and was really inspired by it. Here’s an interview with Seth where he explains the basic concepts of the book. My favorite quote from the interiew has to be: “Don’t be a wandering generality, be a meaningful specific.”

St. Patrick, a Man of God

Although the holiday that bears St. Patrick’s name has become simply a good excuse to wear green and a bad excuse for many to drink, the man behind the holiday was truly a man of God. In honor of that fact, here’s a powerful quote from St. Patrick that has challenged me: “I am Patrick, [...]
Lessons from Coaching the Panthers

The last few months I had the opportunity to coach a 3rd-5th grade boys basketball team. Although I had played basketball in high school, this was my first shot at coaching. It was really fascinating to see the boys develop their skills over the length of the season and gel as a team. With that [...]

This past week I spoke in the MCM Ministry School on the topic of ‘Getting a Presence on the Public School Campus’ as a youth pastor. In youth ministry, this is probably the one topic I enjoy teaching/talking about the most. Here’s my general notes Laws Ministry can be done freely as long as it [...]

Since a young age, I have been playing various sports. It was something I enjoyed doing and over time developed into a descent athlete. As a PK, my parents (and especially my father) were very busy with ‘church stuff’. If you’re a PK, you’ll understand this: meetings, services, weddings, funerals. It really is a busy [...]

Ministry is often viewed through different lenses. Some view it as a burden, others as a calling, and still others as a frustration. My parents, and especially my mother, helped my sister and I view ministry as a joy. Although there were difficult moments, they really helped us both view the positive in every situation. [...]
When You Call the Pastor, Dad (Part 1)

If you would have attended Calvary Temple Assembly of God 20 years ago you would have experienced a number of things: You would have encountered loving people worshiping God; a strong, biblical message; and as you left the service you would have met a loving pastor that genuinely cared for those that attended his church. [...]
Security in Church

Growing up as a pastor’s kid, I would have never guessed there would be a need for security in church. However, with recent situations (Mount Hope Church, Maryville First Baptist Church), the need for security during weekend services is becoming more and more vital. I’ve seen this issue being addressed at different churches in different [...]
Order in the Midst of Chaos

Today I went for a short walk in a local park, as I enjoy doing when its nice out and I have a day off. As I was walking and pondering the greatness of God’s creation it struck me how chaotic nature appears. There are weeds and branches and trees going every which way. Fallen [...]
The Potential in Pittsburgh

I came across this article on the TribLive about the potential that rests in the city of Pittsburgh to be a spiritual force in this nation. I couldn’t agree more! Here’s a quote from the article that Sam Shoemaker made in Time Magazine in 1955 about Pittsburgh: “The untapped conviction and belief in this city [...]
