Being ‘Value’ble

As a pastor we are always on the look-out for who can add value to our church or organization. Especially with my job of recruiting for open staff positions at our church plants, even more so. Something God’s been showing me is how Christ often took what is a normal human approach and put it on its head. For example, He said, “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you…” This wasn’t the normal approach.

How about this approach to recruiting staff/volunteers. Rather than searching for someone who is valuable, try being valuable. Use every opportunity or chance meeting to add value to others. Create an environment at your church that is welcoming to volunteers – not one that burns them out, but rather builds them up. I bet as you do that, the valuable volunteers you’re looking for will start to show up. Wow! That almost sounds biblical!
