This week I am reading The Imitation of Christ, which by the way is a great classic! As I was reading today, there is a short prayer listed that really struck me:
“Help me, my God, in this my good purpose and in Your holy service, and grant that this day I may begin perfectly, for everything that I have done before this is as nothing.”
It reminded me of the Philippians 3 passage where the Apostle Paul says, “Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal…” As we pray and fast, that is our goal. Forgetting what is behind, we must press on toward the goal – to align ourselves with God’s purposes in our lives. To step into a greater level of submission to Christ. It’s not about us boasting to God, “Look what I’ve done for you!” It’s about us pressing through the pain and discomfort to say, “God, I just want more of you in my life.”
The last line you wrote, I’ve been getting a lot of that so far this week.
That, and Be Still, And Know That I Am God.
Thx
