Ministry is an incredibly fulfilling calling to have on your life. To be used by God to see people’s lives changed…there’s truly nothing like it! But with that calling comes more than just the good stories of lives transformed, it also comes with an incredible responsibility: That of guarding your heart and life from temptation. In recent months, I have been saddened to hear of the various ministers (Todd, Michael, Ray) that have fallen as a result of poor moral choices. It has further reminded me of how none of us are above temptation. We are all fallen and have the capacity for sin apart from God’s grace and mercy. This passage from Proverbs 4 is as true today as the day it was inspired:
23 Above all else, guard your heart,
for it is the wellspring of life.
24 Put away perversity from your mouth;
keep corrupt talk far from your lips.
25 Let your eyes look straight ahead,
fix your gaze directly before you.
26 Make level paths for your feet
and take only ways that are firm.
27 Do not swerve to the right or the left;
keep your foot from evil.
